Faridpur Diabetic Association, founded by Dr. Mohammed Zahed and other social workers in 1983, later expanded its services by establishing Diabetic Association Hospital in 2000 then Nursing institute in 2005 and finally Diabetic Association Medical College in the 15 November 2009. The college got affiliated to Dhaka University on January 4, 2010 and received academic approval from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on January 13, 2010 and BMDC on January 19, 2005. Admission of students started from January 21, 2010 for academic year 2009-2010 and academic activities started from 8 february 2010 with a total number of 51 students in DF-1 batch.
The campus is located on 1.1963 acre of land in Jhiltuly, the heart of Faridpur city. The college has also 4.51 acres of land located in Domrakandi, Faridpur among this 1.79 acre of land was donated by Mr. Mir Nasir Hossain & His family. Mr. Mir Nasir Hossain is the President of Faridpur Diabetic Association & The Chairman of the Governing Body of Diabetic Association Medical College.
It has a well-developed structural chain, including one 16-storied academic building, two hospital buildings, and one building dedicated for ladies hostel. A total of 530 students are currently studying in this campus from 1st year to final year. Domestic students as well as foreign students on campus contributes to cultural diversity and cultural exchange. The admission process for foreign students were started from the academic year 2009-2010. In every year 10-15 new students from Nepal & India were admitted in this College.
At present the principal of the college is Prof. Dr. Md. Zohirul Islam Miah. In addition, there are a total number of 76 faculties including 17 professors, 19 associate professors, 9 assistant professors, 1 curator, 23 lecturers and 7 part-time teachers in 11 departments & 14 allied subjects. All teachers of this college are rich in their skill and efficiency.
So far, 270 students from 6 batches (DF-1,2,3,4,5,6) from this college have Obtained MBBS degree and 5 batches (DF-1,2,3,4,5) completed the internship. Many of these students have successfully got a chance in various post graduation courses and have qualified the BCS examination and are working efficiently in different districts and upazilas. Also, the students of this college have shown tremendous success in the professional examinations. In the professional examination held in 2019, some students have got honors marks. The success of this college is due to the specific direction and sincerity of the authorities & the teachers.
The students of this campus are not lagging behind in sports either. Every year, various outdoor games including cricket and football are organized according to the season under the management of the college authorities.
The Diabetic Association Medical College is an open stage for the festivals. In a completely non-communal environment, each festival is held in a very beautiful manner with the spontaneous presence of all students in Annual Milad Mahfil, Hamd, Naat, Qur'an recitation, Saraswati Puja and cultural programs. Various national days such as Language Day, Independence Day, Victory Day are celebrated very efficiently. The students also conduct various voluntary activities on the campus such as voluntary blood donation program, free medical camping, distribution of clothes among poor in winter season, assistance to the helpless and orphans. Blood Bank ‘AMITY’ is playing a special role in blood collection and blood donation program.
This medical college is not only prosperous but also its hospital is very rich.The 500-bed hospital is one of the reliable place of medical services for the people of greater Faridpur. Every day more than 1000 people get all kinds of medical services including diabetes. People from Faridpur, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj, Rajbari, Magura, Jhinaidah, Kustia districts come for medical services. This hospital has a well-equipped dialysis unit where a large number of patients receive dialysis services every day. There is also a diabetic foot care unit for diabetic patients. A team of skilled physicians is providing medical services round-the-clock. Among the medical colleges outside Dhaka, the Diabetic Association Medical College has earned an appreciable reputation.
